Banned currency worth Rs 2.30 cr seized, five held

Police have arrested five persons and seized Rs 2.30 crore banned currency notes at Kumbalam toll plaza, near here today. The arrested were identified as Abdul Jaleel (55), native of Muvattupuzha, Ram B (41), native of Tripunithra, Sathyan (54), native of Thrissur, John (51), native of Kozhikode and Jayachandran (40) native of Irrinjalakuda, Thrissur, police said. Acting on a tip-off, police seized the banned currency in the denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. The arrested will be produced before a magistrate later in the day, police added.
