Ex DyCM Tara’s aide in Vigilance lockup

JAMMU: Congress veteran and former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand’s confidante, who often gave run to his boss, Kewal Sharma has finally landed behind the bars.
The Vigilance Organization today arrested Kewal Sharma so of Gian Chand Sharma of Khour, at present Patta Paloura, Near Petrol Pump, Jammu in case FIR No: 32/215 P/S VOJ which is under investigation against the accused for accumulation of huge assets.
During his last days in office of Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand,
Kewal Sharma had claimed in a press
conference that he possessed incriminating evidence against his boss. However, later on the do reached reconciliation and Kewal reneged from his statement. Kewal’s wife had also once moved Police against Tara Chand saying that her husband was held captive by the then Deputy Chief Minister.
According to a statement issued by the Vigilance Organization, during investigation of the case against the accused, assets in the shape of
commercial and luxury vehicles and immovable properties in the shape
of residential houses, both within and outside the state, worth cores
of rupees were unearthed.
It said that during investigations it has been found that the accused
has managed to open bank accounts on fake documents and deposited
crores of rupees in these accounts and the money has been utilized for
purchasing assets by the accused.
“Further, the documents regarding qualification on the basis of which
Kewal Sharma has been appointed have also been found to be fake for
which separate FIR No: 20/2016 P/S VOJ is also under investigation,”
it said.
“Since, the accused is not cooperating and divulging the facts as to
how he has managed the opening of bank accounts on fake documents and
the source of these documents, details of properties purchased outside
the state, the source of fake and fabricated documents used for
getting government job. To clarify these aspects he has been taken
into custody for questioning,” the statement said adding that the
accused has been formally arrested and after medical examination
lodged in police custody.
Further investigation is going on, it said. Pertinently, Kewal Sharma
was the PRO of a former Deputy Chief Minister.
