`3,90,000 seized in fake `2000, 500 notes

JAMMU: The Jammu Police busted a fake currency printing racket with the arrest of two people from Simbal Camp in R.S. Pura and recovered fake banknotes with face value of nearly Rs four lakhs in different denominations.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu zone S.D. Singh Jamwal said that acting on specific and reliable information, Jammu police conducted a raid on the house of one Amandeep Singh, alias Aman, son of Kirpal Singh, resident of Simbal Morh, Basti Govindpura, Miran Sahib who was printing counterfeit currency notes in his house.
Jamwal said that Amandeep Singh was apprehended along with a Colour Printer (HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2520hc All-in-One Printer) and counterfeit currency notes with face value of Rs. 3,90,000 were seized from his residence. The notes were in denomination of Rs 2000 and Rs 500.
Two scales and one cutter were also recovered from them.
“During preliminary investigation it was found that Amandeep Singh, alias Aman was the kingpin of counterfeit currency racket and got Rs. 30,000 for one lakh counterfeit currency notes. On questioning, he disclosed the name of Ramesh Kumar, alias Sahil, alias Doctor, son of Bhajan Lal, resident of Chak Bala, at present Gangyal, who has also been arrested. During search, 2 counterfeit currency notes of Rs 2000 denomination were recovered from him,” he said.
A case FIR No. 32/2017 U/S 489/C/489/D RPC has been registered at P/S Miran Sahib in this connection and further investigation is on. Some more arrests and recoveries are expected.
As per the investigation, the fake currency had not reached the market as they were only printing it when the arrests were made, the IGP said.
