JAMMU: After an initial call of three-day strike, the High Court Bar Association at Jammu has decided to resume its work by tomorrow following an assurance by the National Conference to withdraw its privilege motion against a Judge.
The Bar Association of Jammu had gone on strike after National Conference Member of Legislative Council Bashir Ahmed Veeri moved a privilege motion against Sub Judge Kusum Lata Pandita who had recommended a Police action against Showkat Ganai, his colleague in the Upper House, for calling Hizb militant Burhan Wani a martyr. Even though the same Judge had cancelled her order but the National Conference persisted with its privilege motion and so did the Bar Association of Jammu with its strike.
Conciliation between National Conference and the Bar was today facilitated by party's provincial president Devinder Singh Rana who said that his colleagues in the Legislature's Upper House have moved for withdrawal of the privilege motion against the Judge. But for Rana's intervention, the issue was headed for a row between the Legislature and the Bar as latter had strongly protested the privilege motion against the Judge.
Chairman of the Legislative Council Haji Inayat Ali confirmed to The News Now that the National Conference leaders facilitated his telephonic conversation with leaders of the Bar Association but he asserted that he will take a call on the privilege motion only when the request is moved before him in the Legislative Council tomorrow.
On Sunday the Bar in its meeting headed by its president Adv Abhinav Sharma decided to resume the work in all courts and tribunals from January 23 'in view the withdrawal of the privilege motion moved in the Legislative Council by legislature of certain political against judicial officer'.
The meeting was also attended Senior Advocate VR Wazir, SS Nanda, Anil Mahajan, S Rupinder Singh, Sunil Malohtra, Deewakar Sharma & ors.
