3670 posts vacant in twin Medical Colleges

JAMMU: 3670 staff posts at the twin medical colleges-Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu and Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, are lying vacant, state government replied to an un-starred question in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
In reply to BJP legislator-Rajesh Gupta's questions, minister in-charge, Health and Medical Education Department, Bali Bhagat said that the sanctioned staff strength at the twin Medical Colleges, including the Super Specialty Srinagar, is 10, 890 against which in position staff strength is 7220 while 3670 posts are lying vacant.
Specifying the vacant position of staff posts, government said that there are vacancies of Principals, Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Lecturers, Medical Physists, Registrars, Faculty members, Demonstrators, Gazzetted officers, Assistant Surgeons, Pharmacists, Non-Gazzetted staff members, Paramedical Staff, Ministerial Staff, Nursing Staff, Class-Ivth staff and Safaiwalas in the twin medical colleges and SSH Srinagar.
Separately, as per the government reply, the sanctioned staff strength at the GMC&H, Jammu is 5222 against which the availability of staff is 3375 and there are 1847 staff posts lying vacant.
In GMC Srinagar including the SSH Sriangar, the sanctioned strength of total gazzetted and non gazzetted is 5668 while the in-position staff strength is 3845 and the vacancy of staff is 1823.
"Service of around 486 staff members is sought on academic arrangement or deputation at GMC Srinagar and SSH Srinagar," government reply reads.
On filling of vacant posts, the minister concerned said that most of the vacant posts of doctors and para-medicos falling under direct quota have been referred to the recruiting agencies.
"As soon as selection is received, the vacant staff posts, whether gazzetted or non-gazzetted will be filled up," government said.
There are total 35 hospitals under the administrative control of Government Medical College Srinagar including the Medical College, 7 associated hospitals, one SSH, 6 PHCs, 11 sub-centers and 9 other hospitals while there are total five hospitals in Jammu including GMC&H Jammu, SMGS Hospital, Jammu, CD Hospital, Jammu, SSH Jammu, and Psychiatric Diseases Hospital, Jammu.
