Expert meet of CSTT for preparation of fundamental glossary of botany in Dogri concludes

Jammu Jan 17: A five day Expert Meet organized by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi at the Department of Botany, University of Jammu, Jammu from 12-16 January, 2017, concluded here today.
During the meet, several interesting and meaningful Dogri terms related to Botany including plant kingdom, taxonomic literature, vegetative and floral morphology of plants, ecology, plant breeding, physiology and metabolism, DNA and cell biology, biodiversity, genetics etc. were evolved, created and incorporated in the Glossary of Botany in Dogri to be used by the scientists, researchers, farmers and the common masses particularly of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Besides, several already existing terms, which otherwise were not in practice, were also adopted for inclusion in the Glossary of Botany.
Speaking during the concluding session, Dr Dharminder Kumar, Assistant Director, CSTT, MHRD, New Delhi, expressed his satisfaction on the progress made in evolving and exploring novel terminology in Dogri for Botany subject and hoped that in the next few more similar innovative and creative programmes, the usage of existing and newly evolved terms and their definitions would hopefully be finalized. He thanked the University of Jammu, Jammu, in general and the Department of Botany, in particular, for facilitating the project plan of the CSTT, MHRD, New Delhi meant to finally reach the students, teachers, scholars, scientists, officers etc.
Earlier, Prof Yash Pal Sharma, Head of the Botany Department and the Coordinator of the Meet, expressed his gratitude to the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi for providing this opportunity to hold this prestigious and highly relevant event here in the University of Jammu. He also thanked Assistant Director, CSTT for personally supervising the brainstorming discussions during the Meet. “The hard work, consistency, rationality, support, shared wisdom, expertise and endless patience shown by the experts while creating the original terms is acknowledged gratefully by the University. Dogri would be continuously enriched by such mindful and meaningful interactions”, said Prof Sharma, optimistically.
It is pertinent to mention here that since the CSTT is actively involved in evolving and defining scientific and technical terms in all Indian languages and publish glossaries, definitional dictionaries, and encyclopaedia for the stakeholders in their own language for better societal understanding and economic development and the Fundamental Botany-Dogri glossary would be another great addition in this regard.
Prominent experts who participated and effectively contributed in the meet were Sh.OP Sharma Vidyarthi (IFS and Sahitya Academy Awardee), Prof SK Gupta (SKUAST-Jammu), Joginder Chattrapal (Dogri language expert and Sahitya Academy Awardee), Prof Romesh Atri (GDC Boys Udhampur) and Prof Yash Pal Sharma (Head, Department of Botany, JU).
