MLC files privilege motion against Judge

JAMMU: A National Conference lawmaker has moved privilege motion in the Upper House of Legislature against judge of a local court who had direction the Police for action against former.
A judge at a local court in Jammu has last week had forwarded to City Police a complaint against MLC Showkat Ganai 'for investigation u/s 156(3) CrPC'. The Judge had acted upon complaint of one Muhammad Sadiq Khan who had sought registration of FIR under section 109, 115, 121, 124A, 504,506 RPC against the NC lawmaker for calling Hizb militant Burhan Wani a 'martyr'.
On Monday, Ganai submitted a privilege motion against judge for directing police to register FIR against him. The Chairman of the Legislative Council has directed the Police to not register FIR against the MLC but the decision on privilege motion shall be taken on Wednesday.
The issue of court directions for registration of FIR against NC MLC rocked in the both the Houses of State legislature with many Members terming it an attack on highest constitutional institution.
