Winter is the season to strut shiny glossy look. Glowing complexion, rosy cheeks, glossy plumpy lips and soft hands and feet but cold can be a challenge to the skin and hair. The chill can take away the moisture leaving your skin and hair, dull and dry. So before we get any late I brought you some tried and tested, skin and hair care tips from experts. This week we will stick to skin related regimes you should follow in winters and it will follow with hair and other regimes for overall health. Here are some basic tips, of which most of us are aware but they often get out of our minds. Let's brush them up.

Keep yourself hydrated :
People tend to get more dehydrated in winters since they drink less water when it's cold; but it is very unhealthy habit. It is highly important to hydrate your body from inside, for healthy skin. So keep an eye on your water intake. Herbal tea is also a great remedy to moisturise your skin from within. Do not leave your skin thirsty. Drink more water and help your skin retain its glow. Also due to lack of water inside you may bloat more. Keeping watch on your water intake can help you dodge gaining those extra inches around your waist and also on your face.

Stay Wrapped up :
Invest in a warm pair of gloves and socks to protect your hands and feet and prevent the skin on them from becoming dry and flaky because of hazardous cold. Use scarves to cover face and neck, to protect their delicate skin.
Don't go harsh on yourself :
Winter is the time when your skin and hair need maximum attention and care. Though the idea of piping hot water is very tempting, still stick to a lukewarm water bath every day. Hot water can leech away the moisture of skin and hair, making them dull and dry.

Stick to Basics steps:
Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise. During winters one gets little lazy and repellant to water. This is especially for those with acne prone skin. Winters could be your good time. Since the pores of your skin will reduce due to the cold, your skin will break out less. But this might lead to blackheads and more so whiteheads. So you can involve face-wipes to remove dirt off your face at the end of the day. And then you can cleanse with cleansing milk to your satisfaction. Don't forget to use toner and Moisturise.

Keep your skin moisturised :
Choose a good, oil-based moisturiser to keep the skin moisturised and soft. Pay special attention to the exposed and the most affected areas like your hands, nails, feet and face, especially lips. Keep them well moisturised at all times. Even those who have oily skin must use light moisturising lotions after cleansing to keep the skin soft.

No Good-Byes to sunscreen:
People like to enjoy the sun during winters but little do they know that exposure to the sun can harm their skin in winter too. Use a mild sunscreen of SPF 15 or so when you step out in the open. In fact, it should be a part of your daily routine throughout the year. Do not say goodbye to your sunscreen just because summer is over.

Secure that pout from chill:
Use a lip balm to keep your lips soft and supple. Prefer lip balm with SPF, as it would protect your delicate lips when you are basking in sun. Chapped lips is very common problem in winter. Licking them will make them more chapped, use a good lip balm instead. Lightly scrub your chapped lips before applying any balm or ointment. If your lips are sore, use lip balm which contains tea tree oil as it helps heal painful cracks.

Exfoliate : Winter means dry skin which means more dead skin, which means exfoliation is must. Invest in some good quality scrub for face and body. For body you can use lofah or bathing sponge and for feet, pumice stone. After exfoliation use body oil to moisturise skin of entire body. Winters can be good time to lighten up body marks using oil. You can use coconut oil and any other good quality super absorbent body oil. Do not overdo the exfoliation.

Stay Healthy :
Internal wellness is essential throughout the year as a healthy skin and hair is a reflection of good inner health. One should continue to eat healthy, drink plenty of water, sleep well, stay stress-free and exercise regularly. Make a balance diet plan for winters according to your needs. My tips would be munch on nuts.
