Two BSP candidates file nominations; papers of 12 candidates found valid for Udhampur seat

Jammu: Two-time Member of Parliament and Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) candidate for Jammu Parliamentary Constituency Jugal Kishore Sharma who is trying his luck for the third time will be filing his nomination on March 30, while Congress candidate and party’s J&K working president Raman Bhalla will be filing his nomination before returning officer on April 2. The Jammu Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 88 segments across the country going to the polls in the second phase on April 26.
Bhalla who was fielded from Jammu Parliamentary Constituency in 2019 was defeated by Jugal Kishore Sharma. The contest in Jammu Parliamentary Constituency is primarily between BJP and Congress, as Jugal is piped against Bhalla who is a joint candidate of I.N.D.I.A alliance.
As per party sources, Union Minister Anurag Thakur will also be accompanying Jugal Kishore during the filling of his nomination papers. Thakur on Wednesday participated in a roadshow in support of Dr Jitendra Singh in Udhampur, and he may visit Jammu on March 30. “Thakur will now visit Jammu on March 30 to participate in the programme of filing nomination papers by BJP candidate MP Jugal Kishore Sharma,” source said. Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat visited Kathua on the day Jitendra Singh filed his nomination papers.
Jugal accompanied by senior party leaders and workers will led in a procession from Indira Chowk and shall file his nomination in the DC office at Wazarat Road. After filing of nomination, a public rally will be held near School Complex located at Shahidi Chowk.
Meanwhile, JKPCC Chief Vikar Rasool Wani today took review of the preparations of the scheduled rally on the day of the nomination papers to be filed by Raman Bhalla on April 2 before the returning officer in Jammu.
The meeting was attended by all senior leaders of PCC, DCC Presidents and frontal wing leaders of all three districts of Jammu Rural, Samba and Reasi and representatives of 18 Assembly Constituencies. The meeting discussed the arrangements to be made for the participation of people from different areas and assembly segments on the day of filing of papers.
Earlier, Two candidates filed their nomination papers for the Jammu parliamentary constituency, which goes to the polls in the second phase of the Lok Sabha election on April 26.
"On the first day of nomination for the Jammu constituency, two candidates today filed their nomination papers," an official spokesman said.
The two candidates, Jagdish Raj and Charanjeet Chargotra (covering candidate), both from the BSP, filed their nomination papers in the office of the returning officer.
Meanwhile, Returning Officer 5- Jammu Parliamentary Constituency, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, today issued election notification for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the constituency. The election in this Parliamentary Constituency (PC) is scheduled to take place during the second phase of the electoral process.
The election notification specifies the timeline and procedures for candidates wishing to contest in the parliamentary elections. As per the notification, nomination papers can be filed by candidates or their proposers at the Returning Officer’s office (Deputy Commissioner), Jammu or Assistant Returning Officer 76- Jammu East (Joint Commissioner (A) Jammu Municipal Corporation) at Deputy Commissioner’s office, Wazarat Road Jammu between 11 am to 03 pm on any day (other than public holiday) not later than April 4.
The nomination forms can be obtained from the office of the Returning Officer, located at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jammu. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place on April 6 at 11 am at Deputy Commissioner’s Office Jammu. The candidates have the option to withdraw their candidature on April 8 until 3 pm. The polling day for the constituency has been scheduled for April 26 and the polling will be conducted from 7 am to 6 pm.
Moreover, the nomination papers of 12 candidates, including those of Union minister Dr Jitendra Singh and Congress candidate Choudhary Lal Singh, for elections to the Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency in Jammu and Kashmir were today found valid after scrutiny.
The returning officer for the Udhampur parliamentary constituency, Dr Rakesh Minhas, conducted the scrutiny of nomination papers submitted by the candidates for the upcoming 18th parliamentary elections and 12 nominations were found valid, officials said.
A total number of 15 candidates, including covering candidates, had filed the nomination papers for Udhampur Lok Sabha seat.
The candidates whose nomination have been found valid include Amit Kumar (Bahujan Samaj Party), Balwan Singh (J&K National Panthers Party), Dr Jitendra Singh (Bharatiya Janata Party), Choudhary Lal Singh (Congress), Manoj Kumar (Ekam Sanatan Bharat Dal), and independents Dr Pankaj Sharma, Rajesh Manchanda, Sachin Gupta, Swarn Veer Singh Jaral, Ghulam Mohd Saroori, Mohd Ali Gujjar and Mehraj Din.
The scrutiny was held in the presence of general observer Dheeraj Kumar, the contesting candidates and the representatives of the political parties.
According to the election notification, the candidates can withdraw their nomination on March 30 in the office of the returning officer. The constituency is scheduled for elections in the first phase of polls to be held on April 19, the officials said.
Dr Jitendra Singh, the two-time MP from Udhampur-Kathua constituency, is aiming for a hat-trick of wins while Congress' Lal Singh, who also won this seat in 2004 and 2009, is also in the battle for a hat-trick.
