SRINAGAR: Apni Party, led by its President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari Monday, unanimously decided to explore the possibility of an alliance with like-minded parties in Jammu and Kashmir.
The undivided pronouncement by the Apni Party comes days after the Election Commissioner of India announced dates for Lok Sabha across the country.
As per the reports available with The News Now, an extraordinary meeting to discuss the present political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, given the upcoming parliamentary elections, was held at Apni Party Officer in Srinagar.
President Altaf Bukhari headed the meeting. It was attended by Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir, Parliamentary Committee Chairman Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Vice President Usman Majid, Vice President Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, Vice President Javid Mustafa Mir, General Secretary Rafi Ahmad Mir and senior other leaders of the party.
A senior leader who was part of the meeting told The News Now that feedback was sought from all the parliamentary constituencies and was thoroughly discussed.
He said the leaders authorised the party President, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, to explore the possibility of an alliance with like-minded parties.
He said, “Leaders discussed the present political situation in J&K and chalked out the party’s poll strategy, whereas the party leaders shared their perspectives and ideas regarding the various aspects of the upcoming elections”.
“After the thorough discussions and assessment of the feedback from the parliamentary constituencies across Jammu and Kashmir, the party leaders unanimously decided to authorise the party president, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, to explore the possibility of an alliance with the like-minded parties,” he said.
Meanwhile, sources said that the party has, as of now, made any formal decision on whom to join hands with. However, it will be interesting to see whether the Apni Party holds a hand with the People’s Alliance of Gupkar Declaration or the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The J&K Apni Party was formed on 8 March 2020 by thirty-one former members of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party and Indian National Congress, which included former members of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and cabinet ministers in the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Apni Party went to the District Development Commission elections without any alliance held in November 2020; out of 280 seats, the Apni Party won 12.
