Alleged corruption in Revenue Deptt sparks stir, probe ensured

Kathua : Scores of people on Sunday blocked road to lodge protest against the alleged corrupt practices adopted by Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar in Chhan Rorian area of district Kathua.
“In absence any support from the administration to eradicate alleged corruption to ensure smooth revenue works, the people staged resort to stage protest and block National Highway, which hampered vehicular traffic movement for several hours,” the sources said.
Eyewitnesses said that around fifty people of Chhan Rorian led by Ashok Kumar, president of Jammu and Kashmir Sharnarthi Action committee and Gurdev Singh, State President of committee Monday staged sit in dharna in front of the Niabat, Chhan Rorian and later blocked National Highway.
“ People in the shape of rally from village Chhan Rorian carried out protest and dharna in front of said Niabat against Tehsildar Marheen ( Gulshan Kumar) and Naib Tehsildar( Nand Kishore ) in connection with their alleged demands to attest mutation of a land in favour one Shiv Ram son of Gulab Chand of Chhan Rorian.
The protestors also demanded implementation of Agararian Reform act – 1976, suspension of Tehsildar Marheen and hold enquiry against him, constitution of a committee to probe alleged illegal practices by Tehsildar Marheen and other revenue official and implementation of JPC report-183”, said eyewitnesses.
They said that later people blocked the road leading towards the village.
“Shouting anti-Kathua administration slogan the protestors said that both the revenue officers of Chhan Rorian are very corrupt persons and harassing people. They demanded and requested to suspend both the revenue officers. The protestors were later pacified by the SDM Hiranagar who reached on the spot and listened to the demands of the people's of Sharnarthi Action Committee and assured them that their genuine demands will be solved very soon. On the assurance of SDM Hiranagar people called off their dharna”, the eyewitnesses said.
