Cinema influences the young, impacts mind, society and culture

JAMMU: Indian movies have had great influence on the viewers from the very beginning, especially the youth who have always followed the actors and actresses of their generation. Almost every movie loving youth has tried to follow his or her favourite actor or actress in way of talking, style, dressing and actions, even the hair cut also has been adopted by the fans from time to time. Till the eighties, the movies were reformative and were based on social and domestic problems. But after the commercialization of movies everything changed. Violence, crime, vulgarity, obscenity and rapes dominated all the reforms and issues. This is the main cause of rising crime and violence against women as today’s youth is deeply infested by such movies. People, especially youngsters, try to follow whatever is shown in modern movies. Have the movies really caused negative effects in the society? To know this The News Now talked to some Jammuites. Let us know what they say regarding this.

In my opinion, the main reason why vulgarity has increased in Bollywood movies is because of the immense copying of Hollywood movies which is badly affecting our Indian culture and society. Western culture has made a huge impact on Indian cinema. Modern Indian films are trying to mimic West without taking ill effects in consideration. Such movies have affected our culture and heritage, including social fabric. In fact what the West has shunned, we have adopted that. Dressing sense, especially of the heroines is immensely bad, as there is too much exposure of body.

Cinema has influenced the youth to believe that going to pubs, drinking, smoking is cool and those who do not do all these things do not know how to enjoy life. I have seen many movies which spread wrong messages in the society. Our cultural, social and moral values are shown out dated and being obedient or sincere to parents and others is shown as out of fashion and stupidity.

In order to make more and more money easily today’s film producers do not bother about the quality and the ill effects of the movies. Despite knowing the fact that movies have badly affected the youth and the society, the film producers give us violence, crime, exploitation and violence against women. All this is later reflected in our society. Social values have been lost in the glamour of movies and the youth has become intolerant and violent. Movies having negative aspects are being made and violence is a result of these movies.

Bollywood movies have a tremendous impact on the thinking and behavior of the movie watchers, especially the youth who fall an easy prey to the scenes of violence, crime, obscenity and character assassination.

Everybody cannot accept this theory but it is a fact that these meaningless and “Masala” movies have spoiled our society and the thinking of the youth. Moreover, the extra-ordinary publicity given to actors and actresses gives a notion that they are the most important for our society and we should follow them. By saying this, I don’t mean that these actors are bad as they have to do what they are told to do. What is more important is that keeping the impact of movies in mind producers should try to adopt reformative policy so that our society is not polluted and spoiled.

If we believe that our society, teenagers, youth are getting affected by what is shown in movies then nothing can be farther away from the truth. Our society gets affected by vulgar videos and movies which can be easily accessed through the Internet. It is not the vulgarity in Indian cinema that is spoiling the Indian society, rather Indian cinema is a mere reflection of what the Indian society is like.

All that what is shown in movies is just the demand of the script. Like everybody, filmmakers also want to make money through their work that is why they make movies which are liked by the audience and they earn millions. If only negative things are shown in movies then why they are earning millions. It simply means all these things are happening in reality in our society and the movies are just portraying all these on the 70 mm screen.

So it is totally baseless argument that movies are spreading vulgarity and other bad things in our society.
