City colleges abuzz with extra-curricular activities

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Government College for Women Parade organized a three-day first-aid training workshop in collaboration with Red Cross, J&K Chapter. CMO, Government Medical College, Bakshi Nagar, Dinesh, was the chief guest at the inaugural function of workshop. The objective of the workshop was to make students aware of the first-aid steps in case of accidents, firing, heart problems etc. About 67 students, who participated in the workshop, were made aware of the golden hour in accidents.
College authorities also organized a seminar on the importance of elections, where Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K, Shantmanu delivered a lecture on "elections in democracy". The CEO told the students about the various processes in elections and taught them how to fill nomination forms, which things to keep in mind when casting vote and proper use of EVM.
College in-charge, Aruna Dubey said that students need to know other important things as well apart from studies. She said that the college administration is going to organize self defense training for girl students. Meanwhile, election process is going on for the Class Representatives (CR) in the college.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Unit of Government Maulana Azad Memorial College organized a function to pay rich tributes to martyr Lt. Sushil Khajuria, a college alumnus, who made the supreme sacrifice while fighting against militants at Kupwara on 28th September, 2011. The parents and family members of the martyr were also present on the occasion.
Brig. Rajan Jamwal, Group Cdr, NCC, motivated the cadets to join defence forces and highlighted the supreme sacrifice made by Lt. Susheel Khajuria, who proved himself not only a good son but also a true son of his motherland.
An inter-college symposium was also held. Prof. Sunita Sharma and Prof. Prakash Antal from Department of Economics, University of Jammu, were the jury members. The first prize was bagged by Vishakha Rajput of GCW Gandhi Nagar, second prize was jointly bagged by Parminder Singh GGM Science College and Cdt. Vishal Sharma of Government MAM College, and third prize was bagged by Cdt. Hansja Sharma of GCW Parade, Jammu.
Talking to The News Now, Principal Romesh Chandra said that at the end of October, the college will organize Udaan Placement Drive, in which students of different colleges would participate for various job opportunities.

Classes of first semester B.Ed College Jammu have already started. Out of total 200 B.Ed seats, 190 have been filled and admissions are open till next week. Associate Prof. Dr. Raj Singh said that students of third and forth semesters will undergo two months training in Government Primary Schools, where they would take classes under the supervision of college incharge and teachers of particular schools. They will be awarded marks for their performance. The M.Ed. students are giving presentations in classes of different subjects as part of their internal tests and sessions.
