Over 1L doses reach J&K 14 lakh jabbed in 86 days

Jammu: While the COVID positive cases surge across the Union Territory and the region reportedly facing shortage of the vaccine on Wednesday heaved a sigh of relief as the Centre has sent additional more than one lakh doses to Jammu and Kashmir.

Official sources in the Health Department said that the Central Government has sent an additional dose of one lakh to Jammu and Kashmir and the vaccination campaign will continue in the districts.

On Tuesday, 25,694 more people got vaccinated, they added.

“Out of the total doses received, 74,000 have been supplied to Jammu division and the vaccination campaign will further be intensified in all the districts,” they said adding that Jammu district has received 15,000 doses of COVID vaccine.

“The government has also assured that more doses will be supplied within a couple of days as many districts are short of vaccines while the number of vaccination centers has also been reduced in many districts,” they added.

“On Tuesday 25,694 people were vaccinated in the Union Territory and it was the lowest number in the past week,” said an official adding that in Jammu, 15,585 and in Kashmir division 10,109 people received doses.

So far, a total of 14,39,589 people have been vaccinated in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Only 55 people were given the vaccine in Shopian district while the Jammu district had the maximum vaccination of 6302 people,” they said.

“The vaccination campaign depends upon the availability of the vaccine,” they added.

The official further said that Youth Hostel at Nagrota comprising 62 beds, has been converted into COVID Care Center to keep infected people coming from outside the UT.

This center will have asymptomatic patients while in Jammu district, Community Health Center Bishnah, R S Pura and Kot Bhalwal are ready to be re-established as Covid Hospitals.

However, he said that with effective efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19, the health authorities across Jammu and Kashmir have inoculated 14,62,383 people with anti- infection vaccination.

“Among total doses administered, 31, 150 were jabbed on Wednesday including 17484 in Jammu and 13,666 in Kashmir,” an official associated with the drive told The News Now.

He informed that 14,62,383 people including front line workers, health care workers and people above the age of 45-years have been inoculated in J&K so far.

“We have administered 7,59 417 in Jammu region while 702966 in Kashmir region,” he added.
