Vaccination drive for schools’ staff from tomorrow in Valley

Jammu: In the backdrop of recent spike in COVID-19 cases, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday directed all its employees who are 45 or above to get a shot of the vaccine to ensure that the spread of the infection is contained. Moreover, he Jammu and Kashmir administration has announced scheduled for vaccination drive for teaching and non-teaching staff of school education department in district Srinagar from Thursday.
“In view of the recent spike in COVID-19 infection cases across the Country and the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, all employees of Civil Secretariat and Secretariat of the age of 45 years and above are advised to get themselves vaccinated at the Special Vaccination Centre setup in Civil Secretariat, Dispensary, Jammu, w.e.f 06.04.2021.,” reads the order in possession of The News Now .
The order further reads “They are further advised to continue to follow covid-appropriate behaviour, even after vaccination, by maintaining hand hygiene, wearing face mask and observing social distancing etc. Move Offices outside Civil Accordingly, it is impressed up on all the Administrative Secretaries to ensure vaccination of all eligible employees working in their respective Departments,”
As per the information available as many as 5179 staff members from over 532 schools which include Primary, Middle, High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools will be vaccinated. In this regard, a circular has been issued by Chief Education Officer Srinagar Manzoor Ahmed Kumar.
As directed by the district administration Headmaster, Principals of High and Higher Secondary Schools and Zonal Education Officers of district Srinagar are hereby directed to ensure the vaccination of teaching and non-teaching staff under their control as per the roster as specified vaccination centres. As per the circular, the teachers need to carry an aadhar card as they have to register themselves on the self-register site.
Meanwhile, an official told that there is no age group for vaccination drive for teaching and non-teaching staff members in the Srinagar district, unlike the government order. He added, we had issued the roster and have assigned specific vaccination centers where staff will go and get vaccinated on their particular day assigned.
He added, “The vaccination drive will start from Thursday and will continue for four days while most among the teaching and non-teaching staff will get vaccinated on 8th April”. The official added that we have all the arraignment in place for the vaccine drive. Asked about the non-teaching staff in schools he said, “Everyone be it a junior assistant or any non-teaching staff everyone will be vaccinated accordingly”.
It is pertinent to mention here that last week dozens of teachers and hundreds of teachers were tested positive for Covid-19 in several districts across Kashmir forcing the administration to shut the school for over two week for primary to 9th class and for class 10, 11 and 12th were closed for two weeks.
