Jammu: A caste motivated mild attack has surfaced in the city where a Dalit youth inwas attacked with boiling oil, when he resisted to being sweared on caste. Moreover, the accused has still not been arrested while police have assured to look into the matter.
As per the reports, the incident was reported on the evening of 23rd February at Domana area of Jammu city.
Kuldeep Kumar, the aggrieved, told The News Now, “I had gone to the nearby provisional store to buy a bulb and went to a fast food joint to get Momos for the family kids when Dhanveer Singh jeered at me with vulgar casteist cuss words.” He further said, “I then asked Dhanveer as to why he abused me and that quickly turned into an altercation.” Describing the moments of the attack he said, “I got a phone call during the altercation and I picked up my phone to answer the call, it was right than he picked up a pan with boiling oil and threw it on my face.”
The police, when asked, dismissed the case as an incident of a mere drunk fracas.
Kuldeep’s mother while talking to The News Now said, “My son is the sole bread winner in the family who looks after me, his sick father and his younger sister.” Praying for Justice, with moist eyes and joined hands, she said, “Nobody is helping us and it’s been four days since the attack but the police still hasn’t done much except mere assurance of looking into the case.”
The family said that though the police have rather reluctantly registered an FIR they haven’t yet shared the copy of the same with them and no arrest has been made till date. Kuldeep’s sick father, like his mother, very sadly remarked, “The only working member of the family who looked after us all is no longer able enough to provide for us and the concerned authority has but hitherto failed us in being served justice.”
The atmosphere at the aggrieved family’s house was very depressing with the abject poverty they live in. The house had no other furniture except a couple of beds. Talking of the problems faced by them due to this incident the family said, “We are poor people who live on hand to mouth earnings, how are we supposed to live in injustice with the only able member decapacitated?”
His relatives said, “It is very unfortunate for such casteist attack to happen in Jammu, which till now hasn’t witnessed caste based violence like the other parts of the country.” They added, “Aren’t they as lower castes entitled to a dignified life as guaranteed under the Article 21 of the constitution?”
