JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday extended ban on high-speed internet till July 29, citing use of high speed mobile internet for coordinating acts of militancy, both within and from across the border behind the decision.
It also credited the ban for successful anti-militancy operations recently.
“The security agencies have been successful in eliminating a large number of terrorists, while ensuring the public order is maintained primarily because the date services have not been allowed to be misused by the anti-national elements and OGWs for mobilizing crowds,” Principal Secretary, Home, Shaleen Kabra said in an order today.
Among others reasons, the government said that it observed that the ongoing restrictions have not caused any impediment in the efforts towards addressing health related issues and COVID control measures.
“Also, there has been no handicap of any nature in the sphere of education or in carrying out the business activities,” it said.
Hence, the government said, the internet speed would remain restricted to 2G only across the J&K till 29th July, 2020, unless modified earlier.
