6 more die of Covid, J&K toll 133; 11 soldiers among 183 fresh cases

JAMMU/SRINAGAR: The death toll due to Covid-19 continued its upward climb in Jammu and Kashmir as six more patients died on Sunday, taking the toll across the union territory to 133, even as 183 more persons including at least 11 soldiers, five pregnant women and a toddler tested positive for Coronavirus across the UT, taking the total number of the cases in J&K to 8429.
Among the fresh cases, 51 were recorded in Jammu region and 132 in Valley while 112 people—23 in Jammu and 89 in Valley— were discharged from hospitals today, taking recoveries to 5255. Out of the total infections in J&K, 3042 are active positive.
Kashmir Valley reported six more deaths due to covid-19, taking the death toll due to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir to 133.
Three among them including a 60-year-old woman from Shadipora area of Bandipora and two men— a 54-year-old male from Baramulla and a 70-year-old from Anantnag— died at SKIMS Soura.
“The woman died at 9:15 a.m. due to cardiopulmonary arrest with azotemia with sepsis,” Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Professor Farooq Jan, informed. “The patient was known case of hypertension, diabetes, CKD , ESRD. She was admitted with pneumonia with encephalopathy,” he added.
Regarding the 54-year-old man, Professor Jan said he was a case of “CLD with bilateral CAP with shock.” “He was in Ward 2A on Ventilator and was declared Covid Positive yesterday night,” he said, adding, “He expired at around 7.30 p.m. today.”
With regard to septuagenarian from Anantnag district, Professor Jan said that he was admitted in ward 2A on July 3 with bilateral pneumonia with Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). “His sample for covid19 was collected on same day and came out positive on July 4,” he said, adding, “The patient was on NIV support and his attendants had given negative consent for intubation. The patient expired at 10 p.m. on July 4.” The body was kept in mortuary overnight, he said.
Earlier, a 40-year-old man from Baramulla died at CD hospital, one of the exclusive facilities for the management of the covid-19 patients in Valley.
Medical Superintendent CD Hospital, Dr Salim Tak, said that the patient, a resident of Sangrama Sopore area of the northern Kashmir district, was suffering from bilateral pneumonia. “He was shifted from SMHS hospital to CD hospital on June 27,” he added. The two other deaths, one each from Srinagar and Bandipora took place at SMHS hospital, the sources said.
Regarding Bandipora case, sources said that he was a 54-year-old male from Gundjehangir and was admitted to the hospital on April 6 and died with underlying ailments such as “hypertension and diabetes” today. Regarding Srinagar patients, details were awaited while this report was filed.
With these deaths, 133 people have succumbed to the virus in J&K— 119 from the Valley and 14 from Jammu division.
Srinagar district with 32 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (23), Kulgam (16), Shopian (13), Anantnag (11), Budgam (9), Jammu(8), Kupwara (7), Pulwama (four), Bandipora (three), Doda (2) while one death each has been reported from Ganderbal, Poonch, Udhampur, Rajouri and Kathua.
J&K also reported 183 new infections on Sunday, including an 18-months-old baby, at least 11 soldiers, and five pregnant women, taking the number of cases in J&K to 8429.
As per a media bulletin, the 132 fresh Valley cases included 59 from Srinagar, Kupwara 20, Baramulla 17, Budgam 19, four each in Pulwama, Kulgam and Bandipora, three in Anantnag, besides one each in Shopian and Ganderbal.
Among the cases, 42 were confirmed out of 2218 samples processed at the viral diagnostic laboratory of the SKIMS Soura, Dr. G H Yatoo, Nodal Officer Coronavirus Control Measures at the hospital told.
Professor Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, informed that among the cases include 18 from Budgam, nine from Srinagar, three each from Kupwara and Kulgam, two each from Bandipora, Pulwama, Anantnag and Baramulla besides one from Shopian.
18 cases from Budgam include male (63) from Shamshabad Khansahib Budgam, male (45) from Kanihama Magam , female (55) from Wadwan , male (38) from Wathoora Chadoora , female (30) from Hushroo Chadoora , female (25) from Panzipora Chadoora , female (26) from Bathara, male (39) from Sholipora Budgam, male (37) from Pakherpora Budgam, two males (74, 26) and female (43) from Chadoora , male (36) from Soibugh, male (32) from Gound Khawaja Qasim Magam , female (40) from Chaira Magam , male (55) from Khag, female (60) from Budgam and female (60) from Pallar.
The Srinagar cases include male (50) from Ahmad Nagar, male (50) from Zoonimar, male (55) from Safakadal , female (51) from Natipora, male (35) from Lalbazar , male (65) and female (65) from Buchpora, Male (23) from Rawalpora and male (30) from Lalbazar while three cases from Kupwara include male (28) from Batergam, male (43) from Handwara and male (47) from Dardson.
The Kulgam cases include female (34) from Kund, male (44) from Guddur and male (35) from Yaripora Kulgam While two cases Bandipora include male (38) from Shahgund and male (23) from Ralaan; Pulwama cases include female (25) from Awantipora and male (48) from Tral Pulwama; Anantnag ones include male (18 Months) from Tantraypora Siligam and male (50) from Aswara; Baramulla ones include male (23) from Naloora and male (48) from Uri Baramulla besides Shopian one is male (26) from Rawalpora Shopian.
Dr Riyaz Untoo, Principal SKIMS Bemina, informed that out of 476 samples processed at the hospital’s lab, 20 tested positive for COVID-19 and all of them from Srinagar. The other cases were confirmed at CD and Jammu labs.

Meanwhile, 112 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 23 from Jammu Division and 89 from Kashmir.
In Jammu region, 51 fresh cases were reported today which include 18 from Samba, 10 from Ramban, nine from Jammu, seven from Kathua, three from Doda and two each from Udhampur and Rajouri.
As many as 23 patients including 12 from Udhampur and 11 from Kathua were discharged from hospitals after their recovery.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 8429 positive cases, 3042 are Active Positive, 5255 have recovered and 132 have died; 14 in Jammu division and 118 in Kashmir division.
The Bulletin further said that out of 399385 test results available, 390956 samples have been tested as negative till July 5, 2020.
Additionally, till date 296591 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 40149 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 42 in Hospital Quarantine, 3,042 in hospital isolation and 45780 under home surveillance. Besides, 207446 persons have completed their surveillance period
