Govt schools improve performance by 17%; overall pass percentage 77%

JKBOSE 12th results: Girls outshine boys again

JAMMU: Government Schools in Jammu and Kashmir showed a remarkable jump of over 17.3% in pass percentage, despite a challenging situation due to COVID-19 outbreak, even as girls outshined boys yet again in J&K Board of School Education results for class 12 in UT's summer zone Jammu which were declared on Sunday.
A total of 33,779 students 17,759 boys and 16,020 girls -- were enrolled for the examination, out of which 26,139 have passed, with a total pass percentage of 77.38%.
However, Government Schools in Jammu province showed a remarkable jump of over 17.3% in pass percentage over last year’s result accounting for a total of around 73% pass percentage, while the private schools of the zone also improved by 11.93% with 85% pass percentage. The pass percentage for girls was recorded at 82 percent, while it was 73 percent for boys.
Ritika Sharma topped the merit list in Arts stream with 99.0 percent marks, while Anshul Thakur, Kritika Sharma, Reeba Shamim Malik, Stazin Sharab and Tania Gupta shared the first position in Science stream with 98.6 percent marks each. Kriti secured the first position in Commerce stream with 98.4 percent marks and Tanisha Jain in Home Science with 85.8 percent marks.
Officials said the first 10 positions in Science stream were shared by 82 students -- 52 of them girls -- while in Commerce, the first 10 positions were shared by 27 students, including 22 girls. A total of 22 students -- 20 of them girls -- shared the first 10 positions in arts stream.
Of the total students, 9,100 got distinctions, while 10,653 got first division, 5,714 second division and 672 secured third division, officials said.
Expressing satisfaction over the results, Principal Secretary (School Education and Skill Development) Asgar Hassan Samoon said the government schools' performance improved from 55.70 pass percentage last year to 73 percent this year.
Director School Education, Jammu, Anuradha Gupta said the JKBOSE declared the results in most difficult circumstances amid the pandemic.
She divulged that 44 students of the Government schools figured in the Top 10 Merit Positions including the first position in Science stream being co-shared by three students from Government Schools along with 2 students from private schools, and the 2nd position too going to a Government School student. She further added that in the arts stream too the 2nd and 3rd position has been bagged by Government School students, while in Home science stream all the top 7 positions have been bagged by the Government School students.
Gupta said that due to the prevailing conditions there is an atmosphere of uncertainty for the students and parents alike about future prospects, and awake to this fact the Directorate of School Education Jammu has a fully functional Councelliing Cell to cater to all kind of queries and guidance to the students and parents.
In the declared result, three students from Government Schools co- shared the first position in science stream with 493 marks (98.6%) namely Anshul Thakur, Govt. Model Hr. Sec. School, Basohli, Stanzin Sharab of Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School, Mubarak Mandi and Tania Gupta of Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School, Udhampur, while the 2nd position went to two Government School students with 492 Marks ( 98.4%) and third position too was co shared by two Government School students with 491 marks ( 98.2 %), displaying the level of close competition.
In Home science stream, all the top seven positions were bagged by the Government School Students, Merit List Facility of Home Science Tanisha Jain, of Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School, Mubarak Mandi secured 429 marks (85.8%) and held on to the top position.
Others are Manisha Aithamian of Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School, Mubarak Mandi with 368 Mark’s (73.6%) (2nd), Sonia Rani, of Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School, Mubarak Mandi with 364 marks (72.8%) 3rd.
In the arts stream too the 2nd and 3rd positions went to Government School students, Vanshika Sumbria Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School, Udhampur, 2nd with 493 marks (98.6%), while S Mallikarjun of Govt. Hr. Sec. School, (Boys), Sunderbani with 491 marks (98.2%) stood 3rd.
