Says Delhi brought together all political parties to defeat NC; has taxable income of Rs 13 lac

SRINAGAR: National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah filed his nomination papers for the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat today.
Accompanied by the party's Treasurer Shammi Oberoi and senior vice president of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee G N Monga, Abdullah filed the nomination papers before Baramulla Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa, who is the returning officer of the constituency.
Addressing the media later, Omar said, “National Conference is yet against the decisions taken on August 05, 2019, and it is why today the party is seeking votes from people on the matter”.
“National Conference opposes the decision taken on August 5th; we're asking for votes to fight against it. Many of our friends stand with us on this, and we're seeing many people joining our cause,” he said.
He added that after a gap of twenty years when I am filing nomination papers to take part in the election, even in Jammu and Kashmir, I’m filing nomination papers after a decade, which states how democracy flourishes in J&K.
“NC and INDIA bloc is fighting LS elections jointly in Jammu and Kashmir. We are hopeful our togetherness will bag all five seats in J&K and one of Ladakh,” Omar stated.
He further added, “ECI has given a free hand to BJP while others are being told to strictly adhere to Model Code of Conduct (MCC). “BJP star campaigners are repeatedly using religion in their speeches and are spreading hate to charge communal atmosphere across the country,” Omar said.
Omar Abdullah Thursday alleged BJP of breaching Model Code of Conduct (MCC), and added that Election Commission of India (ECI) has failed to take action on it.
Abdullah refused to comment on Lone’s remarks that the People’s Conference leader would withdraw from the contest if the INDIA bloc made a public commitment to restoring Article 370.
"We left Srinagar in a couple of vehicles but reached here in a huge rally. And seeing such huge enthusiasm, I won’t be surprised if they postpone the elections in Baramulla like Anantnag. But whenever the elections are held, we will be victorious. Voters must decide on 20 May whether to send their candidate to Delhi or get Delhi’s proxy to Baramulla. My fight is not against an individual or a party but against the government in Delhi and RSS of Nagpur,” said Omar Abdullah.
"This is a reality. In the previous elections, I fought against boycotts, I fought against guns, and I fought against the circumstances of that time. But this time, Delhi has brought together all political parties here to defeat the NC," he said.
"The postponement of polls on the Anantnag-Rajouri seat was done to benefit the Delhi and BJP. Nevertheless, I am sure that the people of Kashmir will come out and end their politics of deceit and manipulation once and forever," he added.
Meanwhile, per the affidavit submitted by Omar Abdullah, NC Vice President, his taxable income increased from Rs 792093 in 2019-20 to Rs 1320460 in FY 2023-24.
The affidavit reveals that his income was Rs 792093 in FY 2019-20, Rs 1173030 in FY 2020-21, Rs 1000570 in FY 2021-22, Rs 1939620 in FY 2022-23 and Rs 1320460 in 2023-24
