Srinagar LSseat: PDP’s Waheed Para, Apni Party’s Mir file nomination papers, 17 in fray

In five years, Ashraf Mir’s income drops by Rs 1.4 lakh; Para has assets of 6 lakh

SRINAGAR: Mohammed Ashraf Mir and Waheed Para filed their nomination papers on Wednesday before the returning officer at the DC office in Srinagar.
Ashraf Mir is the Apni Paty’s candidate, while Waheed Para is fighting elections for the People’s Democratic Party’s seat. So far, 17 candidates have filed their nominations for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat.
Ashraf Mir was the first among the two to file the nomination papers. Accompanied by party leaders, Mir said, “We will go with dignity and honesty. I will not do any cricket scams or any banking scams.
And those who have come from parliament have lost the trust of the people. They saw no difference between truth and lies. And it is the politics of deceit. We will go with honesty as we don’t have any tag.
By god willing, we will go for the people and will bring back the dignity that the state has lost (referring to 5th August 2019), he said.
Asked about the competitors, “They are done with their play of corruption. Our graveyards are filled with martyrs. There is unemployment, our children are suffering from depression, our children are suffering from drugs, God willing, we will guide them and represent them in the parliament, he said.
Waheed Para was accompanied by thousands of workers from Pulwama district. Para was accompanied by senior party leaders, including Naeem Akhtar. Speaking to the media, Peoples Democratic Party youth President Waheed Para said that the party will try its best to represent the sentiment of youth in the Parliament democratically.
Parra said that our effort in this election is to reach every household of Jammu and Kashmir and seek the votes and confidence of people who have been left unattended for the last five years.
He said PDP represents the youth of Jammu & Kashmir and their aspirations and assures the people of the region that we will become their voice. He appealed to voters to give us an opportunity to serve your sentiments in the Parliament. “Give us a chance to see how PDP will represent the people in New Delhi’s Parliament,” he said.
Parra asserted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are craving and have an urge to connect with PDP as this is the only party who flagged up their concerns in odd and even. “After August 05, 2019, no political leader dared to speak up for their people. Everyone remained tight-lipped, and it was only Mehbooba Mufti who took a stand and stood for people,” he said.
“PDP will try its best to represent people’s sentiment democratically,” Parra added. He continued that many elements were thinking of boycotting, but I appeal to my people, especially youth, to vote for whosoever they want to elect. “Your vote is inevitable for change,” he added.
In his election affidavit, Waheed Para declared that his taxable income had increased from Rs 4, 51, 279 in FY 2021-22 to just Rs 4, 70, 310 in FY 2022-23.
As per the affidavit, the taxable incomes were not filed by Waheed Para during the financial year 2019-20 and 2020-21 and 2021-22 due to under custody. The affidavit revealed that Waheed Para has two FIRs registered against him. One at the National Investigation Agency and another at Central Investigation Kashmir.
Parra has also disclosed that he holds agricultural land which has a market value of Rs 2.08 Cr. Parra also has one commercial building at Industrial Estate Pulwama, a Residential House at Pulwama. As per the affidavit, Waheed has movable assets worth Rs 1 lac and immovable assets worth Rs 5 lakh.
In his election affidavit, Apni Party candidate Mohammad Ashraf has declared that his taxable income dropped by 2 lakhs from Rs 9,18,140 in FY 2018-19 to just Rs 7,54, 267 in FY 2019-20 when Article 370 was scrapped.
The affidavit revealed that his income surged to Rs 10,70,460 in FY 2020-21; Rs 12,00,210 in FY 2021-22 and Rs 21,91,000 in FY 2022-23. He has also disclosed that he holds movable assets worth Rs 38 lakh immovable assets worth Rs 16 and two residential houses. He has declared his self-acquired assets of Rs 7.24 crores and ancestral assets of Rs 10 crores.
In his election affidavit, Mir has declared that his taxable income has decreased from Rs 14, 79, 130 in FY 2019-20 to just Rs 13, 36, 680 in FY 2023-24 up to March. It was 14, 79, 130 in FY 2019-20, 9, 37, 450 in 2020-21, Rs 945650 in 2021-22, Rs 11, 90, 650 in 2022-23, and Rs 13, 36, 680 for FY 2023-24 up to March, the affidavit reads.
As per the affidavit, Mir has declared that the taxable income of the spouse has increased from Rs 11,260 in FY 2019-20 to just Rs 432380 in FY 2023-24 up to March. It was 11, 260 in FY 2019-20, 4, 97, 740 in 2020-21, Rs 3, 50, 000 in 2021-22, Rs 4, 80, 000 in 2022-23, and Rs 4, 32, 380 for FY 2023-24 up to March, the affidavit reads.
Mir owns 38 Kanal of agricultural land at Lasjan which has a current market value of Rs 11.50 Cr, the affidavit reads. As per the affidavit, Mir has a movable property of Rs 97, 24, 922 and his spouse has a movable property of Rs 1, 57, 25, 528.
