Teacher sensitization, other activities to be held in govt schools under month long prog

Srinagar: In an endeavour to augment the learning level of students in government schools, the education department in Kashmir has decided to hold a month-long "CAMaL Ka Camp" in Schools in collaboration with Pratham Education Foundation.
CAMaL (Combined Activities for Maximized Learning) is a pedagogy created by Pratham to develop children’s basic abilities in reading and arithmetic.
CAMaL facilitates learning through structured activities that lead to the development of different competencies, viz. reading, writing, listening, speaking and doing. The activities are introduced in such a way that they ensure learning by helping the child move from simple to complex and from concrete to abstract. A balance between challenge and support thus characterizes the activities of CAMaL.
A circular in this regard has been issued by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir.
As per National Education Policy 2020, there is a need to strengthen the basic reading & arithmetic abilities of our children and implement the guidelines of NIPUN Bharat (Foundational Literacy & Numeracy) so that in the next five years, all children should be able to read fluently and do basic arithmetic by the time they reach Class 3, the circular reads.
Further, there is also a need to augment the learning levels of students of grades 3-8 so that the gaps therein for Languages & Mathematics are also plugged. In order to realise the above-mentioned targets, this office is going to introduce a summer campaign called "CAMaL Ka Camp" in collaboration with Pratham Education Foundation, it added.
The circular further added that in this summer campaign, the reinforcement classes will be run for the students through TaRL (Teaching at the Right Level) methodology in all the schools of the Kashmir division for a time span of one month for language and mathematics to overcome the learning gaps.
It is expected that by the end of the camp, all children should be able to read simple text fluently with understanding, and be able to express their thoughts in oral and written form and will also be able to do division word problems, it added.
The activity will involve Teacher sensitisation and other activities in collaboration with Pratham field staff and as such you are requested to facilitate the said organisation in the said activity. Pertinent to mention that there will be no financial implications for the said activity from our side, the circular said.
