The festival of Vijayadashmi or Dussehra is being celebrated across the country today. The festival is celebrated to remember Lord Rama's victory over Ravana, marking the triumph of good over evil. The day also marks the culmination of Navratri and Durga Puja. President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu have greeted the people on the occasion.
In a message, Mr Kovind said, the festival strengthens the cultural unity of India and inspires us to live in harmony, following the path of virtue and shunning evil. He said, the festival is also associated with the life and values of Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram whose life is a shining example of morality and righteousness. The President hoped that the festival would protect us from the evil effects of the ongoing pandemic and bring prosperity and affluence to our countrymen.
In his message, Mr Venkaiah Naidu urged everyone to follow COVID-19 health protocols while celebrating Dussehra. He said Dussehra symbolizes the victory of good over evil and celebration of the annihilation of demon Mahishasura by Goddess Durga. Mr Maidu said that the festival reminds us of the pious, virtuous and noble life led by Lord Rama, who is an ideal son, ideal husband and ideal king and an embodiment of righteousness, truth and morality.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended greetings to the countrymen on the occasion of Mahanavami. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, on this auspicious occasion of Navratri, the ninth form of Goddess Durga, Maa Siddhidatri is worshipped. He said, May everyone get success in their work by the blessings of Maa Siddhidatri.
