APRIL 3: Following a 12-hour-long debate, Waqf Amendment Bill was passed in Lok Sabha with 288 members standing pro to Bill and 232 voting against it. The bill has been tabled currently in Rajya Sabha.
Objective of Waqf Bill
The idea behind the Waqf Amendment Bill is to address the woes pertaining to Waqf properties by induction of Government to oversee the properties and benefitting the underpriviledged.
Induction of non-muslims in Waqf institutions
The new Waqf Amendment Bill mandates inclusion of non-Muslims in important Waqf institutes. It advocates that both Central Waqf Council and State Waqf Boards must include at least two non-Muslim members.
Intense monitor Waqf institutes
With the Government monitoring the Waqf institutes, transparency and accountability will be ensured along with streamlining the coordination among umpteen departments. For implementing this imperative step and giving control to State Government will prevent misuse of Waqf laws.
Huge Revenue for Development
With the process of preventing the misuse will increase revenue for Waqf Board giving a space for welfare schemes.
Impact on Poor
Regular inspections and intense survey will prevent financial or monetary lapses and build public trust in the ideal management of Waqf Board. Additionally, the misuse of Waqf property will be prevented. Moreover, the Board will have representation from backward-class Muslims.
