Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government is set to revolutionize the healthcare system with the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, aimed at enhancing diagnostics, treatment accessibility, and preventive healthcare. As part of the 2025-26 budget, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced a significant focus on AI-driven healthcare services that will transform the delivery of medical care across the Union Territory.
A cornerstone of the government’s health sector reforms is the deployment of 100 AI-based Portable X-Ray Machines. These machines will be installed across district and sub-district hospitals over the next two years. The allocation of ₹16.50 crore in the 2025-26 budget will fund the first 50 units, significantly enhancing diagnostic capabilities, particularly for tuberculosis (TB) screening. These AI-powered X-ray machines are designed to provide rapid, accurate results, aiding in early disease detection and timely intervention.
In addition to TB screening, AI technology will play a vital role in streamlining diagnostics in other critical areas, improving the speed and accuracy of medical assessments across the region.
The government will soon roll out the SEHAT App, an advanced digital health platform that will offer teleconsultation services and allow online doctor appointments in government hospitals. This initiative is aimed at improving access to healthcare services, especially in remote areas. The app will also feature a digital health records system, enabling patients to easily access and manage their health information.
One of the standout features of the SEHAT App is its integration with the AB-PMJAY-SEHAT insurance scheme, ensuring that patients can seamlessly access health coverage and insurance benefits. Additionally, the app will provide AI-powered diagnostics, enabling users to receive e-prescriptions, order medicines, access emergency health support, and track real-time updates on preventive care, vaccinations, and wellness programs. These features aim to make healthcare services more accessible, affordable, and efficient for all residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
To complement the integration of AI technologies, the budget also includes provisions for increased funding for medical infrastructure, including the development of new medical colleges, advanced diagnostic facilities, and telemedicine services.
Notably, ₹400 crore has been allocated for upgrading medical machinery and equipment, ensuring that hospitals across Jammu and Kashmir are equipped with the latest technologies, including AI-driven diagnostic tools. ₹825 crore will be spent on improving medical drugs and treatments to ensure timely and effective healthcare for all.
A significant focus will be placed on expanding dialysis services, with an additional ₹16.80 crore allocated for the establishment of new dialysis centers in 40 SDHs/CHCs. he government also plans to strengthen telemedicine services, making it easier for residents in remote or underserved areas to access specialist consultations 24/7. This service will be integrated into the SEHAT App, expanding its utility as a comprehensive health platform.
