Jammu: In a significant development, the Jammu administration has successfully renewed 2,212 gun licenses that were pending since the CBI seized records for investigation between 2012 and 2016. The licenses were renewed up to December 31, 2024, while an additional 25 licenses have already been renewed in 2025.
The records, which had been taken by the CBI as part of a probe into allegations of fake gun licenses, were recently returned to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. This enabled the resumption of the renewal process for genuine license holders, providing much-needed relief after years of delays.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Jammu, Ansuya Jamwal, confirmed the progress, saying, “The return of records from the CBI has allowed us to streamline the renewal process. So far, 2,212 licenses have been renewed till December 31, 2024, and 25 more have been renewed in 2025. This is a major step forward for license holders who were waiting for years.”
The administration has implemented a simplified process using the NDAL (National Database on Arms Licenses) portal. License holders are required to fill out an online application, upload relevant documents, and pay the renewal fees through the portal.
ADC Jamwal assured that stringent measures are in place to prevent misuse or tampering of documents. “We verify all applications to ensure their authenticity. In cases of discrepancies, applicants are contacted directly for clarification,” she added.
Under the Arms Rules of 2016, licenses are being renewed for a maximum period of five years, subject to mandatory police verification to ensure the license holder’s clean credentials.
“We are following the rules strictly, and each renewal goes through proper verification to ensure the applicant’s record is clear,” ADC Jamwal emphasized.
This progress is a testament to the administration’s efforts to address long-standing concerns of gun license holders in Jammu. Licensees are encouraged to complete their online submissions promptly to ensure timely renewals.
