Jammu: Northern Railway has invited tenders for the development and operation of a modern warehouse and storage facility at Bari Brahmana railway station in Samba district, marking the first such project in its Jammu railway division under the cargo-related facility (CRF) policy, officials said on Tuesday.
The proposed facility aims to provide safe storage of goods, faster loading and unloading, and improve supply chain efficiency in Jammu and Kashmir, while encouraging private sector participation in railway logistics infrastructure.
The project is being undertaken in accordance with the Ministry of Railways’ circular on rail logistics and CRF policy, issued on October 4, they said.
“In a move to strengthen rail-based freight and logistics infrastructure in Jammu Division, Northern Railway has taken a historic and revolutionary step. For the first time, the Jammu division has invited tenders for the development and operation of a state-of-the-art warehouse and storage unit under the CRF at Bari Brahmana railway station”, the officials said.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said the project is a step towards strengthening freight and logistics infrastructure in the Jammu Division and would directly benefit local traders, industrialists and farmers.
The initiative aims to reduce the time and cost in cargo handling, enhance the competitiveness of rail-based logistics and create new employment opportunities, he said.
Singhal said the railway division was committed to transparent and efficient development and urged industry stakeholders to participate in the e-tendering process.
