Srinagar: The Centre has allocated ₹1,846 crore for the development and maintenance of National Highways (NHs) in Jammu & Kashmir and ₹70 crore for Ladakh in the current financial year 2026-27, with expenditure of ₹1,484 crore and ₹20 crore, respectively, recorded up to June 30, 2026, the Union Government informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways also revealed that Jammu & Kashmir received ₹10,528 crore in 2023-24, all of which was utilised for NH development and maintenance, while Ladakh was allocated ₹658 crore, with the entire amount also spent.

Replying to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Jairam Gadkari said NH projects, including inter-State bridges and roads of economic importance, are prioritised based on traffic density, connectivity requirements, road conditions and integration with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

The ministry stated that J&K received ₹10,331 crore in 2024-25, against expenditure of ₹10,204 crore, and ₹8,083 crore in 2025-26, of which ₹7,999 crore was utilised. Ladakh received ₹794 crore in 2024-25 (₹768 crore spent) and ₹338 crore in 2025-26 (₹333 crore spent).

The report further said that under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme, J&K has received ₹125.73 crore so far in 2026-27 against an accrual of ₹148.51 crore, while Ladakh’s CRIF allocations and releases have also continued in line with approved projects.

This version follows the standard news practice of leading with the most recent development (2026-27 allocation) before providing the previous years’ figures for context.
