Jammu, July 29: Authorities on Wednesday ordered the closure of schools in Doda district and most parts of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir as a precautionary measure following continuous rainfall and worsening weather conditions.
According to officials, all government and private schools in Doda will remain closed to ensure the safety of students and school staff. The decision was taken on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner and implemented through an order issued by the Chief Education Officer (CEO), Doda.
A similar order was issued in Kishtwar, where the district administration suspended classwork in most areas due to persistent heavy rainfall, slippery roads and the risk of shooting stones. However, schools located within Kishtwar city, from Malipeth to Cherhar, have been exempted from the closure order and will continue to function as usual.
Despite the closure of educational institutions, online classes will continue in both districts according to the scheduled timetable, officials said.
Moderate to heavy rainfall lashed the Chenab Valley, including Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban, from the early hours of Wednesday, prompting the administration to remain on alert.
Officials said the situation is being closely monitored in view of the weather forecast predicting continued moderate to heavy rainfall over the coming days.
