SRINAGAR: Meeting of the Rules Committee will be held under the Chairmanship of the Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on January 1st, 2025 in Jammu.
The meeting comes days after Abdul Rahim Rather, the speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, constituted a nine-member committee to complete the legislative assembly’s draft Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.
The committee, according to the order, was formed in accordance with Rule 363 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, and Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather would act as its ex-officio chairman.
A notification in this regard has been issued by issued by Qazi Mushtaq Ahmad Under Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly which reads Meeting of the Rules Committee will be held under the Chairmanship of the Hon’ble Speaker in his Office Chambers at Legislature Complex, Jammu on Wednesday, the 1st January, 2025 at 11.00 Am.
The following members of the Committee are, accordingly, requested kindly to make it convenient to attend the aforesaid meeting on the scheduled date, time and place that include Mubarik Gul (NC), Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami (CPI-M), Saifullah Mir (NC), Nizam-ud-din Bhat (Congress), Pawan Kumar Gupta (BJP), Hasnain Masoodi (NC), Ranbir Singh Pathania (BJP), and Muzaffar Iqbal Khan (Independent, backing the ruling alliance).
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat has reconstituted the House Committee. The committee has been constituted under the leadership of Speaker Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather, who will serve as the Ex-officio Chairman.
The newly formed committee notification includes Sunil Kumar Sharma (Leader of Opposition), Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Sajad Gani Lone, Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi), Shamim Firdous, Surjeet Singh Slathia, Ali Mohammad Dar, Javid Hassan Baig, Ch. Mohammad Akram, and Waheed Ur Rehman Para.
This fresh composition replaces an earlier nine-member committee that was formed on December 25, 2024, under Rule 363 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business including Mubarak Gul (NC), Justice (Retired) Hasnain Masoodi (NC), Saifullah Mir (NC), Nizamuddin Bhat (Congress), Pawan Kumar Gupta (BJP), Ranbir Singh Pathania (BJP), Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami (CPI-M), and Muzaffar Iqbal Khan (Independent).
The reconstitution has addressed the political concerns raised by the exclusion of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and People’s Conference (PC) in the earlier committee, both of which were now included in the revised version.
