Anantnag, April 29: In a decisive action against drug-related activities and illegal occupation of government land, the Anantnag Police, working jointly with the civil administration, launched a demolition drive targeting several unauthorized structures reportedly linked to individuals involved in narcotics offences.
Officials stated that the operation focused on constructions raised on state land under Khasra No. 319 (min) at Sangam along the busy NHW-44 corridor. These buildings, functioning as roadside eateries and small restaurants, were found to have been established without legal permission and were allegedly associated with persons facing cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Among the demolished properties was an establishment known as “Kashmir Restaurant (Dabba)”, owned by Gul Mohammad Mir and Bashir Ahmad Mir, residents of Donipora Sangam. Police records indicate that both individuals are facing separate cases registered at Police Station Bijbehara under various provisions of the NDPS Act.
Another eatery, identified as “Taj Restaurant (Dabba)”, constructed on the same parcel of land, belonged to Mohammad Maqbool Mir and his sons, Aijaz Ahmad and Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mir, who are also residents of Donipora Sangam. Authorities said they too are named in a narcotics-related case registered at the same police station.
During the drive, officials also dismantled a third structure known as “MIR Restaurant,” situated between the two previously mentioned establishments and reportedly owned by another family member, Amma Mir.
Authorities emphasized that all the demolished buildings had been erected illegally on government property without proper authorization. The action, they said, was carried out strictly in accordance with legal procedures and reflects the police department’s continued resolve to curb drug trafficking and remove unlawful encroachments.
Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining a strict stance against the drug menace and urged citizens to assist law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious or illegal activities in their localities.
