Srinagar, Apr 11: In a move aimed at strengthening and modernizing traffic management across the Valley, a delegation of transport stakeholders on Saturday held an interaction with the newly posted Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Kashmir, Haseeb Ur Rehman, to discuss emerging challenges and collaborative solutions for safer and more efficient mobility.
The delegation was led by S. Umar Bhat and included representatives from trade bodies, transport unions, market associations, and members of civil society. The meeting focused on enhancing coordination between enforcement agencies and transport operators to address congestion, road safety, and compliance issues in the region.
Officials noted that the appointment of DIG Rehman is being viewed positively by stakeholders, particularly due to his earlier association with traffic management in the city. During his previous tenure in Srinagar, several key measures were introduced to improve road regulation and public awareness regarding traffic discipline.
Speaking during the interaction, DIG Rehman underscored the importance of adopting modern technology to improve traffic regulation and reduce accidents. He stressed that innovative tools, including advanced monitoring systems and data-driven approaches, would play a vital role in strengthening road safety mechanisms across Kashmir.
“Our focus is to build a responsive and forward-looking traffic system where technology enhances public safety and ensures smoother movement on roads,” he said, adding that public cooperation remains essential for achieving long-term improvements.
Representatives of transport bodies and traders expressed confidence in the new leadership and assured their full support in implementing measures aimed at reducing road mishaps and improving traffic flow. They emphasized that sustained coordination between authorities and stakeholders will be key to creating a safer and more organized transportation environment in the Valley.
