Ramban:The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), the main surface link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, was shut down early Wednesday after a massive landslide struck the Shalgari area of Banihal.
An official traffic advisory issued around 6:30 am confirmed that the debris from the landslide has blocked the highway completely, halting all vehicular movement on the route. Authorities have appealed to commuters to postpone travel plans and use the highway only after clearance operations are completed and the road is declared safe for traffic.
The Traffic Police have also cautioned the public against depending on rumors or unofficial reports. Commuters have been advised to follow verified updates through official communication platforms, including the Traffic Police social media channels and other authorized information sources.
Officials said that road clearance teams are expected to continue efforts to remove the debris and restore connectivity. However, no specific timeframe has yet been provided for reopening the highway.
