NOV 15: In view of blast that tore through Nowgam Police Station claiming 9 lives and injuring 27, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Nalin Prabhat, on Saturday, asked to refrain from theorizing the incident terming it “accidental”.
DGP Prabhat said, “Any speculation into the cause that led to the blast inside the Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar is “unnecessary”.
He also confimed, “At least 9 dead and 27 injured after a high-intensity blast tore through Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar in late night.”
It is learnt that the explosion rocked the Police Station when a confiscated explosive stored inside the Police Station blew.
He said that the explosive was recently brought in from Haryana’s Faridabad to Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar. The explosive was recovered after J&K Police and Faridabad Police busted an alleged doctors’ terror module.
Among the fatalities are: Policemen and FSL team members; Revenue Officials; a local tailor is also among the dead, while 29 others are injured.
Detailing about the blast, DGP Prabhat said that intensity of the explosion was such that some body parts were recovered from the nearby areas of Police Station
DGP Prabhat added that the injured have been referred to Army’s 92 Base hospital in Srinagar and SKIMS Soura for treatment of multiple injuries, while some have been admitted to a local private hospital for medical assistance.
