SEPT 1: In a bid to ferry the daily and stranded passengers to their onward destinations, the Northern Railways on Monday began a shuttle service between Jammu and Katra.
It is learnt that four trains have been inducted in Jammu-Katra shuttle service rolled out from September 1 to 15.
“With an aim to facilitate the movement of daily passengers and the stranded people, a shuttle service has been initiated between Jammu and Katra,” Railway official said.
Notably, following torrential rains that triggered flash floods resulting in bottlenecks at several locations in the Pathankot-Jammu section, the Rail Traffic was suspended in the Jammu Railway Division for one week.
Services of over 50 trains were suspended on Monday, however, special trains had been made operational by Railways to ferry stranded passengers to their destinations from Jammu since few days.
According to the reports, a total of 5,784 stranded passengers have been ferried in seven trains from Jammu to their destinations.
Pertinent to mention, the calamity that hit Jammu region on August 26, disrupted rail and road traffic leaving several people especially the pilgrims stranded.
