Jammu: The Amarnath Yatra from Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp in Jammu has been temporarily suspended for July 17 due to heavy rains and frequent landslides along the pilgrimage routes.
The decision comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of pilgrims amid deteriorating weather conditions.
The halt in Yatra movement follows a tragic incident on Wednesday evening, where a landslide along the Baltal route in Ganderbal district claimed the life of a woman pilgrim and injured three others.
According to officials, four pilgrims were swept downhill by a sudden landslide at Railpathri, en route to the holy cave. The injured were rushed to the Baltal base camp hospital, where Sona Bai (55) from Rajasthan was declared dead on arrival.
This incident has pushed the death toll in this year’s Yatra to 15, raising fresh concerns over the safety of the annual pilgrimage as inclement weather continues to disrupt the journey.
Authorities have advised all pilgrims to remain alert, follow weather updates, and wait for further advisories before proceeding with the Yatra.
