Shantmanu unveils logo of Babar’s ‘Luxury Pashmina Dialogue’ series

JAMMU: Shantmanu, Development Commissioner, Handicrafts & Handlooms, Government of India, launched the logo of “Global Luxury Pashmina Dialogue” series here today.
The Global Luxury Pashmina Dialogue series is a first step towards preserving, enhancing and re-imagining the Pashmina heritage of Jammu & Kashmir curated by Babar Afzal, noted Pashmina activist, artist and shepherd to build thought leadership and to address the challenges faced by Pashmina industry of the State.
Speaking at the event, Shantmanu commended the efforts of Babar and talked about the contribution of handlooms and textile industry in building the economy of the country
Also present at the event, Rajinder Singh Tara, Director, Industries, Jammu, highlighted the significance of Pashmina industry for J&K economy and welcomed the efforts of Babar to contribute towards tackling the challenges faced by the industry.
The logo launch was also attended by eminent scientist Disaster Management, Dr. G. M. Bhat, who enlightened the audience about the need to preserve delicate Pashmina ecosystem of J&K to address the environmental concerns.
The event was also attended by renowned journalist Zafar Choudhary, who spoke about the historical connect of J&K with Central Asia and Europe due to the high demand of Pashmina.
Speaking on the occasion, Babar shared his soulful journey as a shepherd, the inspiration and the making of the logo.
“The logo symbolises the exquisite nature of Pashmina teamed by the opulence of the fabric and highlighting the fine process of making of Pashmina from strands to beautiful shawl with Kani Twigs,” he said.
Heena Anjum, Co-founder, Kashmirink, briefed the audience about their initiatives for the Pashmina community. Luxury Pashmina Dialogue Series has been announced for Jammu region to be followed in Kashmir and Ladakh and subsequently, to major cities of India and key international destinations, she added.
