Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a committee to review and monitor the existing and proposed wayside amenities, particularly toilet facilities, along major highways and roads across the Union Territory.
As per Government Order No. 1985-JK(GAD) of 2024, the committee, chaired by the Secretary of Agriculture, will include representatives from the Tourism, Housing and Urban Development, Public Works (R&B), and other key departments. The committee’s primary task is to assess the physical and functional status of these amenities, with a particular focus on toilet facilities, and suggest improvements.
The committee will also propose uniform standards for toilet complexes based on commuter traffic and suggest a self-sustaining model for their maintenance. An inbuilt feedback mechanism will be explored to ensure continuous monitoring and quality assessment.
The committee is expected to submit its recommendations and report within a designated timeline to improve the infrastructure and user experience along the highways of Jammu and Kashmir.
