J&K Assembly to remember separatist leader Syed Geelani

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Session which started today in Srinagar as all set to remember separatist Leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani who was considered key separatist leader in Kashmir valley.
As per the list of business for 5th of November 2024 released by Assembly secretariat Speaker will make references on the sad demise of former President of India Pranab Mukherjee, Former PM of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee and other important leaders.
The list includes former MLA Syed Ali Shah Galeeni who later turned into a separatist and anti-India leader.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who represented Sopore Assembly constituency thrice, was key separatist leader of Kashmir advocating complete freedom of Kashmir from India.
Syed Ali Shah Geelani who contested multiple elections from 1972 to 1989 renounced mainstream politics over alleged rigging of elections in 1987.
Later he found All Parties Hurriyat Conference and headed it.
He compaigned for complete freedom of Kashmir from India, gave numerous shutdowns calls, openly supported terror organisations and was considered key force behind 2010 and 2016 unrests in Kashmir.
In 2020, Syed Ali Shah Geelani was conferred with Nishan-e-Pakistan, Pakistan's highest civil award.
A year later- On 1st of September 2021- Syed Ali Shah Geelani passed away at his Hyderpora Srinagar residence after prolonged illness.
