Asks Omar to make discussion with PM, HM Shah public; going to surrender today
SRINAGAR: Engineer Abdul Rashid Sheikh, a member of Parliament from Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency and president of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), said Sunday that he will never be deterred from representing the sentiments and legitimate aspirations of the people, whether in Tihar Jail or outside.
Addressing a press conference, Er Rashid said that as the interim bail is ending today, he is going to surrender himself at Tihar Jail tomorrow, where he has been languishing for the last five years after the abrogation of Article 370.
Er Rashid highlighted his outreach efforts during his interim bail period, which covered not only the Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency but also parts of central and south Kashmir.
Er Rashid also expressed conditional support for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, stating that he would back any initiatives beneficial to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged Omar Abdullah to fulfill his poll promises, including 1 lakh jobs, 200 free units of electricity, and 12 free gas cylinders and questioned what Omar discussed with key national leaders, including the Prime Minister, Defence Minister, and Home Minister.
He called on Omar Abdullah to clarify whether issues like the restoration of Article 370 and the release of political prisoners were part of those discussions and what responses were received.
Additionally, Er Rashid extended his gratitude to civil secretariat officers and district-level officials, praising their cooperation in review meetings and addressing public issues. He confirmed that his financial commitments during his visits and review sessions had been recommended to be released from the MPLADS fund. He urged the administration to ensure swift implementation of these works.
Earlier today, the Awami Itihaad Party convened a meeting of constituency heads and district presidents in Baramulla. The participants discussed recent political developments and the challenges posed by the fallout of the bail judgment scheduled for tomorrow at Patiala House Court.
