Replaces L0 with advanced L1 RD fingerprint scanners
SRINAGAR: In a significant move to strengthen the security and accuracy of Aadhaar-based biometric transactions, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has mandated the upgrade of existing fingerprint Level O (L0) registered devices (RD) to more secure Level 1 (L1) fingerprint scanners.
The directive is in line with the recommendations from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and is outlined in Circular No. 22-JK(GAD) of 2024, dated September 30, 2024.
With a view to enhance the security and accuracy of biometric transactions, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has advised that existing biometric authentication systems be upgraded from Level O (LO) to Level 1 (L1) finger-point Scanners, read the circular.
It adds, “The key features of fingerprint L1 Registered Devices (RD) are improved accuracy, enhanced security, and advanced features, which allow for a more reliable and efficient fingerprint authentication process, making it suitable for a wide range of applications requiring heightened security measures.”
However, to avoid any disruptions in the system, all existing deployed fingerprint LO RD devices are to be phased out of the authentication ecosystem in a gradual manner. The Information Technology vide above referred OM has already advised all the Administrative Departments to strictly follow the instructions/guidelines issued in this regard by UIDAI, it added.
Accordingly, it is again enjoined upon all the Administrative Secretaries/ Deputy Commissioners/ Heads of Departments/ Managing Directors of PSUs/ Corporation/ Boards to replace the LO RD fingerprint devices with L1 RD fingerprint devices for Aadhaar authentication, it reads.
