ECI issues notification for 3rd phase; Cong yet to release list, BJP undecided on key Jmu seats

Jammu: The Congress party is yet to release the list of candidates for the crucial third phase the General Elections to the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir where the grand old party has key stakes despite notifications issued by the poll body today. Even Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) which has announced 51 candidates for the 90-member assembly polls so far but it yet to release names candidates of five seats of Jammu region.
A Total 40 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) in the districts of Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Udhampur, Kathua, Samba and Jammu shall go to polls in the third and final phase of Assembly Elections. Congress party is primarily fighting most of 24 seats of Jammu region going to polls in third phase. As per the Notification, the last date for filing nominations is September 12.
JKPCC senior vice president and chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said, “Everything is finalized and list containing candidates names will be released anytime”.
Congress’s central election committee which met on Monday had finalised most of names, while it had sought more details on six odd seats of Jammu region. As per sources it is learnt that information has been shared with Congress’s central election committee and it has finalsed the names and list will be out anytime soon.
BJP is yet to announce candidates for Kathua town, Udhampur East, Bahu- Gandhi Nagar, Marh, and Bishnah constituencies.
Congress has entered into a pre-poll alliance with the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir. NC will contest from 51 seats while Congress will fight from 32 seats. Besides, there will be a friendly contest in five seats and also one each seat have been left for CPI (M) and Panthers Party.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) today issued election notification for the 3rd phase of the General Elections to the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir. A Total 40 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) in the districts of Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Udhampur, Kathua, Samba and Jammu shall go to polls in the third and final phase of Assembly Elections.
In Kashmir Division 16 Assembly Constituencies comprising 1- Karnah; 2-Trehgam; 3-Kupwara; 4-Lolab; 5-Handwara; 6- Langate; 7- Sopore; 8-Rafiabad; 09-Uri; 10-Baramulla; 11- Gulmarg; 12- Wagoora -Kreeri;13-Pattan; 14-Sonawari; 15-Bandipora; 16- Gurez (ST) and in Jammu Division 24 Assembly Constituencies comprising 59- Udhampur West; 60- Udhampur East; 61-Chenani; 62- Ramnagar(SC); 63-Bani; 64-Billawar; 65- Basohli; 66-Jasrota; 67-Kathua(SC); 68-Hiranagar; 69-Ramgarh(SC);70-Samba; 71-Vijaypur; 72-Bishnah(SC); 73-Suchetgarh(SC); 74-R.S.Pura–Jammu South; 75-Bahu;76- Jammu East; 77- Nagrota;78- Jammu West; 79-Jammu North; 80-Marh(SC); 81-Akhnoor (SC) and 82-Chhamb are scheduled to go to polls in the 3rd phase of the electoral process.
As per the Notification, the last date for filing nominations is September 12, 2024 (Thursday). Scrutiny of the nomination papers shall take place on September 13, 2024 (Friday) and last date of withdrawal of candidature is September 17 (Tuesday). The polling day for these Assembly constituencies is scheduled for October 1, (Tuesday) and the Polling will be conducted from 7 AM to 6 PM, the notification reads.
