JAMMU: If grapevine is to be believed, the much hyped JKUT assembly elections is all likely to receive a severe dent as the whisper campaign in the political corridors indicate about the lesser probability of its conduct in near future.
Though a great maneuvering has been reported on the political front in the UT, especially in the saffron party with its national president J P Nadda recently visiting the UT and holding closed door meetings with the cadre, allegedly to raise a line of probable for MLA contest with 50+ mission of thje party, it however seems to be an eyewash if a source privy to the meeting is to be believed.
A former important minister in erstwhile PDP-BJP government and an important segment of the meet said that Nadda-BJP cadre meet was on many different lines including BJP’s performance in the recently concluded general elections but did not tow any line regarding assembly elections in the UT.
Talking to The News Now, he wished not to be named.
“Many aspects of the working of BJP were discussed in the meeting that included J&K\’s performance in general elections. Ladakh’s participation and newly carved Rajouri-Anantnag performance was also discussed, but the National President did not take up the issue of assembly elections for the UT,” the former minister said.
He also informed that while assembly elections in the UT are likely to receive a setback, the government is all likely to anticipate for Urban Local Bodies and Panchayat elections instead so that people may not feel deceived and deprived.
It is in place to mention that the Constitution Bench of Supreme Court has ordered the Election Commission to conduct elections to Jammu and Kashmir Assembly before September 30, 2024.
However, immediately after the conclusion of general elections and the new government under the leadership of Narendra Modi having come to power in the centre for the third time, the terrorist activities have gained momentum in JKUT, particularly in Jammu region.
Nearly eight such incidents of small and big scale terrorist activities have been reported in the Jammu region that have consumed many lives which can be a major impediment to the holding of early elections in Jammu and Kashmir, said a political analyst.
Meanwhile another political analyst and historian Hari Om has put this situation in other words . Tagging HMOIndia, he said that it continues to toy with the dangerous idea of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
He tweeted on X, formerly twitter: Very Sad News. One more terror attack in Jammu. This time in Bani, Kathua district. Terrorists martyred 4 jawans on duty. And @HMOIndia continues to toy with the dangerous idea of assembly polls in J&K ignoring the fact that polls would mean transfer of power to separatist.
In his earlier statement, Hari Om termed that BJP’ claim of winning 40 out of 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir as a false claim.
“Absolutely a false claim. Yes, BJP could win 32-32 seats and form a government in Jammu on its own strength if Jammu is separated from Kashmir. The ball is in BJP’s court. Will it play or prefer to live in a fool’s paradise or in a world of the past. Let’s watch and see,” said Hari Om.
