Jammu: One civilian injured in grenade attack and a militant was arrested in separate incidents in Kashmir while National Investigation Agency (NIA) team has arrived in Jammu to investigate the latest three blasts incidents, besides the alert Security forces ahead of Republic Day recovered several suspicious objects including, IED and PIA marked balloon in different parts of the Union Territory.
Recently the twin blasts in busy area of Jammu city- Transport Yard Narwal, leaving 9 injured while another blast in outskirts- Bajalta which has left cop injured, put forces on toes. Besides, the grenade attack in Kashmir injuring 1 civilian and detections of IED like substance in Rajouri as well as recovery of PIA marked balloon near Line of Control (LoC) in Akhnoor sector, raises concern.
Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday arrested a longest surviving militant of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
“Shopian Police and Army arrested one of the longest surviving HM terrorist active since 2017 namely Nasir Ahmed Sher Gojri alias Qasim Bhai S/o Ali Mohd R/o HomHuna Nagbal, involved in various criminal cases. Case registered and investigation set in motion to unearth the terror network,” Kashmir Zone police tweeted.
A civilian suffered minor injuries in a grenade attack in Eidgah area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district this evening.
In a tweet police wrote, "One grenade was lobbed by militants in Eidgah area which caused minor splinter injury to one person namely Ajaz Ahmed Deva S/o Abdul Rasheed Deva aged 32 years R/o Sangam, Srinagar. Person has been taken to hospital & is out of danger. Operation launched to catch the culprit(s),"
Meanwhile, amid a series of bomb explosions in Jammu and Kashmir, an aircraft-shaped balloon with 'PIA' written on it was recovered by J&K police in the Khour area near LoC on Sunday. Earlier in 2021, several similar balloons were recovered from different places in the valley.
“Aircraft shaped balloon, with the word PIA written on it, was found in a forest area near village Kalakas adjoining Bardoh by some locals who later informed the army personnel of 7 Bihar regiment. Army personnel took the balloon under custody and further informed the Border Police Post of Jogwan”, said a police officer.
The blasts in the transport yard of Narwal were triggered by suspected terrorists at a time when security agencies in the region are on high alert amid the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra of the Congress and the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.
A Selection Grade Constable was injured in a third blast that took place in Bajalta on Saturday morning. Official sources said that while police was busy in twin blast site at Narwal, another blast took place in Bajlata in which a cop of Jammu and Kashmir Police received splinter injuries.
Official sources said that a police party of Sidhra police post was checking the documents of the dumper bearing registration number JK02CV4638 at Bajalta Morh when explosion took place in the said dumper. In the blast one Selection Grade Constable namely Surinder Singh received splinter injuries. He was rushed to the GMC hospital for treatment. Nagrota Police have registered a case under section 3 of the Explosives Act and started an investigation.
A day after the incidents, a NIA team reached Jammu and took several objects as a part of investigation. Sources said that the NIA team took CCTV footage of the blast sites. They said that the Jammu and Kashmir Police have also questioned one Mohd Ashraf of Rajouri at present Bathindi, owner of the Mahindra Pickup Bolero vehicle bearing registration number JK19/ 4059, in which the explosion took place. Police have also questioned another person namely Des Raj, a scrap dealer as a second blast took place in his scrapped car bearing registration number JKO2BB/ 7273.
In Rajouri, security forces recovered a suspicious material like Improvised Explosive Device at Budhal road near Kotranka town.
Official sources told that today evening information was received by police station Kandi that a suspicious object like IED was detected in Jaglani area. Soon a team of police and security forces rushed to the spot to take control of the situation. The Bomb Disposal Squad also reached to the spot to defused the IED.
