J&K submits proposals to GoI for construction of 18 ropeways

UT wants ropeways for Amarnath, Shivkhori, Shankaracharya shrines

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir government has submitted a list of proposals to the Centre for building 18 new ropeway projects across the Union Territory to connect pilgrim places and boost tourism by means of providing easier and safe mode of transport to visitors, including pilgrims and tourists.
This was disclosed by the Union Minister of Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari while responding to a query to BJP parliamentarian from Maharashtra Dhananjay Bhimrao Mahadik in Rajya Sabha.
There are eight major proposals of ropeway projects for Jammu region including Darshan Deopdi to Shivkhori ropeway, Bhaderwah to Seojhdar ropeway, Nasri Tunnel to Sanasar ropeway, Karcihall to WasamargRamban ropeway, Sinthan Top to Gali Maidan Chatroo Kishtwar ropeway, Loren Poonch to Tosemaidan Ropeway, Dubjan to Peer-Ki-Gali ropeway and Shakermarg to 7 Lakes Rajouri ropeway.
The remaining ten proposals of ropeway projects have been submitted for Kashmir Valley, including Makdoom Sahib to Hariparbat Ropeway, Baltal-Amarnath Cave ropeway, Shankaracharya Ropeway in Srinagar, Sonamarg -Thajiwas Glacier, Wullar to Baba Shukur-Ud-Din, Pahalgam –Baisaran ropeway, Sutharan to Tosemaidan ropeway, Khadinyar to Bosian Baramulla ropeway, Sonamarg to Kishansar ropeway and ChuntWali War to Lalmarg Ropeway.
“As per policy of this Ministry, National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a wholly owned SPV of NHAI has been mandated to implement feasible ropeway projects out of priority list of proposals inter-alia including projects connecting pilgrim places, submitted by the State Governments,” the Union Minister said.
He added, “Ropeways is an alternative mobility solution especially for far-flung hilly areas of the country, which will boost tourism by means of providing easier and safe mode of transport to the tourists as well as aid in employment generation”.
