J&K election officials being deputed for Gujarat polls to gain ‘knowhow’

Jammu: In what can be seen as the third and last step towards preparations for holding elections over, it is official now that revised and final list of voters in the UT is ready on its rescheduled deadline November 25, tomorrow.
What has strengthened the possibility of holding Assembly elections is also the fact a team of officials has is being deputed by the Election Commission to Gujarat see the pattern of elections afresh.
Sources dealing with preparations of revised election list confirmed the task is over and revised list incorporates new and eligible voters which would be published soon.
There is, however, no substantial increase in the numbers and the additions are all belonging to various segments of UT .This dispels the apprehensions of political parties that voters from outside living in J&K for a long time would be incorporated in the revised list, sources said.
Pertinently, statement from election authorities in the UT created furore sometime back when a huge number of voters was projected to be increased with addition of non local voters. However, after strong reaction from the political parties, instant clarification assuaged the fears.
As for the preparing the officials and staff, officials from each constituency have been chosen to be sent to Gujarat as ‘observers’, rather in learning capacity to get a knowhow of dealing with conducting of Assembly elections, sources said. Upon completion of polls, they would impart this knowledge of basic and requisite procedures at each level to staff down the hierarchy so that they get readied for Assembly polls in J&K.
As for the completion of voter list, the officials of Election Commission underwent a burgeoning task of going from door to door across each segment of constituencies across J&K. People also responded enthusiastically while staff reached their homes but more than that many even in far flung areas voluntarily went to concerned offices in their areas to ascertain their names are incorporated in the revised voter list, the official said.
Completion of final voter list in the extended deadline has come as a desirous development for the political parties as this exercise paves way for holding of polls in the UT. Earlier, the election authorities could not meet its own deadline for the same that was kept in October this year. However, no matter all the steps as required before holding of polls , that is Delimitation exercise, revision of polls as main measures are complete, conducting them this year is still a far fetched possibility due to inclement weather conditions.
