Deceased’s wife lodges complaint against seniors

Jammu: Amid protest by the Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA), in the suicide case of Associate Professor namely Chander Shaker in JU premises, six girl students is reported to have substantiate their complaints of sexual harassment against the deceased professor and provided video clippings to the Varsity’s Internal Complaint Committee which were later handed over to the police’s probe team.
Official sources informed The News Now that JU has handed over the complaints and video clippings to the probe team which were lodged by the six girl students against the deceased Associate Professor. They said that while the police’s SIT team was going through the video clippings, the deceased Associate Professor’s wife lodged complaint against the senior faculty members of the Psychology department for their harsh behavior towards her deceased husband.
She told police that her husband was abetted to commit suicide by some JU’s faculty members and his seniors. They said that police’s probe team is expected to take statements of the faculty members of the Psychology Department.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the JUTA members wore the black badges to lodge their protest against Jammu University authorities for issuing suspension letter to the deceased Associate professor without giving him opportunity to clear his chest.
Pertinently, The Jammu University hit the headlines after a 42-year-old Associate Professor was found hanging at his office room within minutes after he was placed under suspension over allegations of sexual harassment by some female students.
The deceased, Chandra Shekhar, was a native of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. He was teaching at the university since 2007-08. He was married and had been staying with his family in official quarters on the campus. Following the incident, protest and demonstrations started taking place on the JU campus by JUTA members who were demanding CBI probe into the matter.
Later, Jammu and Kashmir Police constituted a Special Investigation Team, SIT, headed by SDPO Gandhi Nagar Sachit Sharma and supervised by SP South Mamta Sharma to probe the case.
