Victim asked to pursue PhD from home till disposal of enquiry

Jammu: Succumbing to massive agitation launched by students in sexual harassment case reported in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) Katra in Jammu and Kashmir, the varsity authorities finally removed the alleged accused professor for official duties and also offered relaxation of attendance to victim.
The authorities are reported to have offered a choice to the complainant student to do her PhD course from home for which relaxation of attendance shall be allowed.
Further, the authorities have also removed Dr. Hari Govind Mishra, Associate Professor, School of Business from the positions of Dean of Student Welfare, Head, School of Business and all the academic & other administrative duties assigned to him till the disposal of the enquiry being conducted by the Internal Complaint Committee, ICC.
The order issued by the Registrar of the SMVDU and accessed by The News Now read as,“As recommended by the Internal Complaint Committee (ICC), Dr. Hari Govind Mishra, Associate Professor, School of Business is relieved from the positions of Dean of Student Welfare, Head, School of Business and all the academic & other administrative duties assigned to him by the university till the disposal of the enquiry being conducted by the ICC.
In view of the above, Dr. Sonika Gupta, Assistant Professor, SoCSE and Dr.Jhoti, Associate Professor, SoB shall continue to hold the charge of Dean of Student Welfare and Head, School of Business respectively till further orders.
The Head of School shall make appropriate teaching arrangements for subjects being taught by Dr. Hari Govind Mishra.
Further, the complainant student is allowed, as per her choice, to be on leave or to work from home w.r.t. her Ph.D. work, for which relaxation of attendance shall be allowed.
The School Research Committee (SRC) shall initiate the process regarding change of Ph.D Supervisor of the complainant student and submit its recommendation to Dean, Research and Development within 3 working days.
Dr. Hari Govind Mishra is required to be present in the Campus so that he can be called for his presence before the ICC, whenever required”.
The varisity took steps in this connection after college students of SMVDU held protest in opposition to the causal method of the authorities of the sexual harassment complaint lodged by a feminine scholar against the professor.
The feminine scholar had lodged a complaint with the SMVDU authorities stating that the professor of the university under whose guidance she is completing her PhD course had despatched some vulgar messages to her
