Broadcasting Ministry or politicians to blame for ‘complacency’…..?

Jammu: If you happen to travel in car in not so far off border belt of Jammu, what you catch on the music system very often is an ‘alien’ channel with sophisticated, much clearer broadcasts that stun you with the language and content. Catching radio waves in border districts of Rajouri and Poonch is a thing of past as one gets them in areas close to Jammu like Nagrota, Akhnoor and even Thandi Khui.
Earlier it was only rural areas but now Pakistan’s FM Radio channels have ‘invaded’ air space in our urban areas too, thanks to their powerful transmission mode and other technicalities that make it possible. The government is complacent or blissfully ignorant as to ways and means to counter it in a similar manner through our FM channels.
Biggest irony is that we lose the transmission of our own FM channels even in less than 20 kms of radius at some places and an easy surfing enables one to catch Pakistan FM channels. 94.0 Radio Dhamaal is one such station which one encounters interspersed with variety of broadcast capsules. In most of the areas of Kathua district one easily gets Pak Radio FM channels using urdu language, no matter some difficult stuff is beyond comprehension of common man.
Radio is said to be most reachable medium of communication, Pakistan has effectively succeeded in achieving this goal. Immaculately produced programmes with strong scripts offering not just entertainment but infotainment coupled with segments for ‘target audience’ across the border spun in a befitting manner. That is the forte of some of Pak’s FM channels which are also airing political agendas and even propaganda campaigns with ease, utilising the frequency waves to their advantage. This is in complete contrast to the content of FM channels on our side, particularly private ones which air mostly entertainment stuff.
However, the point in question is why the government at Centre and Broadcasting authorities are not doing ‘enough’ to stop , if not beat such FM channels by installing powerful frequency transmitters. While the main official radio is doing is bit in this direction, over the years this has proved purposeless. Sources wishing anonymity said there far less dedication and conviction in terms of preparing strong scripts aimed at countering their propaganda in comparison to Pakistan counterparts. Our politicians are unconcerned and Broadcasting Bosses in Delhi literally have no idea how to beat Pak Propaganda . While sycophancy, favouritism and nepotism still rules roost in official radio mediums, who is to be blamed for Pak’s invasion of air space through frequency waves…?
