Those involved in civilian killings will pay heavily: Sinha

Srinagar, Oct 21 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said those involved in the recent targeted civilian killings will pay a heavy price for the inhuman acts, adding that the government will not rest till terrorism has been eradicated from Kashmir soil.
Sinha was speaking at the police commemoration day function at Zewan in Srinagar.
“I repeat those involved in the recent killings in Jammu and Kashmir and whosoever is responsible for the killings will have to pay a heavy price for their inhuman acts,” he said, adding “we want to assure people that we will totally eradicate terrorism from the soil of Kashmir.”
Sinha said these killings besides aimed at stopping the developmental works in J&K were also aimed at breaking the self esteem of the society.
The Lt Governor said safety and security of every life in J&K will be ensured.
Sinha also appealed to the civil society, other prominent citizens of Kashmir and religious leaders to raise their voice against recent civilian killings in Kashmir.
“The way terrorists have unleashed terror against innocent civilians, it is the time when everyone should raise his voice,” he said, adding that announcements were made from mosques to ensure safety of the innocent minorities which is a welcome step.
This month 11 civilians, including migrant workers and minorities, have been killed in targeted attacks. Police have so far claimed that many civilian killing cases have been solved. The killings have spread panic among the minorities.
Without naming Pakistan, Sinha said “if someone tries to disrupt the peace here, they will be dealt with sternly and will be given a befitting reply”.
Sinha also lauded police and other security forces for doing a commendable job in keeping the peace in the valley intact.
